Resident/Fellow AVRS Scholarships
We are excited to offer a limited number of scholarships (up to $1,000 each) for cardiothoracic surgery residents and fellows to attend the 6th North American Aortic Valve Symposium (AVRS) in Philadelphia, PA, on September 6-7, 2024. These awards are open to all residents and fellows at board-approved cardiothoracic training programs worldwide, including North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

About the 6th North American Aortic Valve Symposium (AVRS)
The 6th North American Aortic Valve Repair Symposium (AVRS) is a two-day meeting designed to enhance learners’ understanding of aortic valve repair. Experts from North America, Europe, and around the world will describe repair techniques, highlight outcomes, and identify areas for improvement. The program includes videos of surgical procedures, presentations of clinical data and outcomes, panel discussions with experts in the field, as well as hands-on and interactive sessions.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Better understand aortic root anatomy and how it pertains to aortic valve repair
  • Assess the suitability of the aortic root complex for aortic valve repair techniques
  • Compare and contrast the outcomes, limitations, and benefits of various valve-sparing and repair techniques
  • Review techniques of bicuspid and tricuspid aortic leaflet repair
  • Review techniques for valve-sparing root reimplantation and remodeling in bicuspid and trileaflet valves
  • Understand the importance of and techniques within echocardiography to plan for aortic valve repair
  • To evaluate the key echocardiographic parameters that are essential for post-repair assessment
  • Describe clinical and echocardiographic surveillance after aortic valve repair

All residents and fellows from around the world at board-approved training programs

Application Process
To apply for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • complete the online application
  • submit a CV or resume
  • submit a letter of good standing. This letter should be completed by the applicant’s program director certifying that the applicant is currently a trainee at the program and is in good standing

Award Notification: 8/9/24

The North American Aortic Valve Symposium (AVRS) Committee will review all applications.
